UN warns of ´complacency´ as measles cases soar worldwide

PARIS: Just 10 countries were responsible for three-quarters of a global surge in measles cases last year, the UN children´s agency said Friday, including one of the world´s richest nations, France.Ninety-eight countries reported more cases of measles in 2018 compared with 2017, and the world body warned that conflict, complacency and the growing anti-vaccine movement threatened to undo decades of work to tame the disease."This is a wakeup call. 3,000 get registered in Khyber to fight against India

HARIPUR: A schoolboy was killed in a road accident in the limits of Hattar Police Station here on Thursday.The villagers staged a protest and blocked the Hattar-Taxila road for over half an hour.According to police, Rizwan, a resident of Hattar village, was a student of 10th class at the Government Higher Secondary School Kotnajibullah.He was on way to Kotnajibullah by a passenger bus when he fell in front of the bus after losing his balance.“The bus crushed him and he died on the spot. Islamabad : The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), which should remain in a state of high alert every single day to be able to better cope with its patient load, has canceled the leaves of all its employees and has instructed them to remain ‘available and alert’ in case of any unforeseen eventuality.A decision to this effect was taken on Wednesday during an emergency meeting held under the chairmanship of the hospital’s Executive Director Dr. Raja Amjad Chaudhry. Islamabad : The Islamabad Sabzi Mandi police arrested 60 outlaws during the last month of February and recovered looted valuables worth Rs5.5 million, two cars, nine bikes and narcotics from them, a police spokesman said.Superintendent of Police (Industrial Area) Sumera Azam constituted special teams under supervisions of DSP Fida Hussain Satti, Station House Officers Sabzi Mandi Police Station to ensure effective action against those involved in criminal activities. PHC seeks report from govt on banning women cycle rally

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday sought a report from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Peshawar district governments in a petition against the ban on the women cycle rally in the provincial capital.A division bench headed by Justice Roohul Amin Khan sought the report from the chief secretary, secretary Home and Peshawar deputy commissioner within three days. PESHAWAR: The district government has decided to devise a strategy to reclaim the land of the graveyards which had been encroached and to discourage the illegal occupation of necropolises in future.Chairing a meeting, District Nazim Muhammad Asim Khan said that all towns and district administration would launch an operation soon.The meeting decided that district government would start demarcation of graveyards, cancellation of transfer deeds and ensure approval from Auqaf Department before construction near graveyards to prevent encroachments on the graveyard lands in the district.The nazim said demarcation for identifying the graveyard land would be done as the first step. PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has restrained the government of Pakistan from handing over Dr Shakil Afridi to the United States (US).A division bench comprising Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth and Justice Ayub Khan allowed a writ petition, in which the bench was requested to restrain the government from handing over the doctor to the US who had been convicted for having links with a militant organisation.
