KP Excise Dept gets 60 new vehicles

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Wednesday handed over 60 vehicles of different types to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise Department.He said the induction of a new fleet of vehicles would strengthen and improve the performance of the department.Mahmood Khan was addressing a ceremony at the Qayyum Stadium Peshawar for handing over the vehicles to the department.Provincial Minister Muhibullah Khan, Advisor to CM for the merged districts, Ajmal Khan Wazir, MPAs Jehan Dad Khan, Malik Wajid, secretary, Excise, director general, Excise, President Sarhad Chamber of Commerce Faiz Mohammad Khan and others attended the ceremony.Secretary and DG of the Excise Department briefed the chief minister about the department functioning.The chief minister indicated that a bill on prevention of narcotics would soon be tabled in the provincial assembly for an approval to eradicate the narcotics and other illegal drugs in the province.He announced to improve services structure of Excise Department. However, he said that the system of accountability would also be introduced within the department.He assured official accommodation for the officers of the Excise department.The chief minister said that the KP government was working to address the issues of the chamber of commerce and business community in the province.Mahmood Khan further announced to donate 13 vehicles of different types to orphan houses and schools. On the occasion, he donated a vehicle to an orphanage under Abdul Samad Memorial Trust.The chief minister appreciated the introduction of a centralized system and smart card for registration of vehicles. He said the initiative would not only facilitate the field staff in checking of vehicles but also the people would benefit from the initiatives.Mahmood Khan directed the Excise Department to introduce digitalization of the property tax system and e-payments to facilitate the people.He announced the establishment of tax facilitation centres in all the districts of the province.He assured that the issues of the business community and Sarhad Chamber of Commerce will be addressed on a priority basis.The chief minister said the previous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government had introduced innovations and practicable reforms in the Excise Department, adding the present government was working to make the provincial departments work along the modern lines so that the system of services delivery could be improved.Mahmood Khan said the provincial government would extend all-outsupport for the strengthening of the Excise Department.He hoped that officers of the Excise Department will perform their duties with more dedication and honesty.The chief minister distributed prizes and certificates among the officers for their performance and gave a shield to outgoing Excise Officer Ikramullah.Secretary, Excise, DG, Excise and Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry president also addressed the ceremony.

Casualties feared in Dir clashes between FC, intruding militants: reports

LOWER DIR: Casualties are feared on both sides as militants from Afghanistan reportedly attacked Frontier Corps (FC) personnel at multiple locations at the Pak-Afghan border in Maidan area of Lower Dir district on Saturday, as per unconfirmed reports. According to local residents and official sources, there were reports of militants’ infiltration from the Afghan side via the Shahi border area at Lamotai Top, Suripao and Safarai forest. However, the reports were yet to be confirmed by Inter Services Public Relations, the military’s media wing. On getting information about the alleged infiltration, troops of the paramilitary force, FC, led by Captain Yasin, Captain Asfandiar and Subedar Hamza, advanced to block the militants’ movement, as per reports.
