PESHAWAR: The district government has decided to devise a strategy to reclaim the land of the graveyards which had been encroached and to discourage the illegal occupation of necropolises in future.Chairing a meeting, District Nazim Muhammad Asim Khan said that all towns and district administration would launch an operation soon.The meeting decided that district government would start demarcation of graveyards, cancellation of transfer deeds and ensure approval from Auqaf Department before construction near graveyards to prevent encroachments on the graveyard lands in the district.The nazim said demarcation for identifying the graveyard land would be done as the first step. He said after demarcation by the district administration, councillors, administration and Auqaf Department officials would launch the operation.He said that transfer deeds of the properties constructed on the graveyard lands would be cancelled to ensure that all encroached land was retrieved.The meeting identified the structures being constructed in graveyards. It decided that during the first phase action would be taken against encroachment on Rahman Baba and Beri Bagh graveyards. Additional Deputy Commissioner Shahid Ali requested the town members to identify the encroached portions of graveyards for action. He directed the Revenue Department officials to stop the transfer of graveyard lands.
