One killed, 39 injured as bus overturns in Dir

LOWER DIR: One passenger was killed while 39 others were injured, five of them critically, when a bus overturned on Khazana Bypass Road here on Monday and fell into a ditch in the jurisdiction of Munda police station.



The accident occurred as driver Attaullah lost control of the bus on the way from Karachi to Bajaur. The Rescue 1122 teams rescued the passengers and shifted them to the district headquarters hospital in Timergara. Five of them were referred to Peshawar’s hospitals due to critical condition.



Additional deputy commissioner Jan Mohammad and additional assistant commissioner Tariq Khan supervised the rescue operation.



Meanwhile, Lower Dir DC Wasil Khan along with additional assistant commissioner Hazrat Bilal visited the hospital and inquired after the injured. He directed doctors and paramedics to provide the best possible care for them.



The police registered a case and began an investigation.



WARNING: Senior school teachers have warned that if their promotion as subject specialists and headmasters is further delayed, they will stage a sit-in in Peshawar on March 5.



The warning was issued during a meeting of the senior secondary school teachers in Timergara here the other day.



Leaders of the SST Association held several meetings with the education secretary and director and sought speedy processing of teacher promotion cases, but to no avail.



Sher Bacha, Haroonur Rashid, and other leaders insisted promotions were being delayed unnecessarily.



TOURNAMENT: Fifth edition of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Basketball Tournament got under way after a colourful event in the Shamshi Khan Talash area here on Monday.



Former principal Aftab Alam Khan, former bank manager Qazi Ihsanuddin, social activist Fakhr-i-Alam Khan, and former district councillor Ibrahim Khan jointly inaugurated the event.



The organisers said 32 basketball clubs from across Lower Dir would participate in the first round, while eight clubs from across the province would face each other in the second round. The matches will be played on the newly built basketball court in a private educational institution.



The speakers highlighted the importance of sports for the development of children and youth.



Fakhr-i-Alam said the tournament committee would provide all possible facilities to players.



The first match was won by the Dherai Star Club against the Shamshi Khan Talash Basketball Club in a thrilling manner.
