More resources to improve child rights demanded

Islamabad:Representatives of Children Clubs on Friday demanded the federal and provincial governments to increase resource allocations to improve the status of child rights in Pakistan. They were addressing a press conference organised by Child Rights Movement (CRM) Pakistan through its Children Clubs to demand resource allocation for protection and promotion of child rights.Shumayl Farooq, 16, highlighted the importance of increased budgetary allocations for protection and promotion of child rights. She also urged the need to devise system and mechanisms to bring children’s voices and views into decision making process under guidance of Article 12 of UNCRC.A child friendly budget also gives information on health, education, protection, justice and social welfare and it also Indicates to examine and assess reprioritization of government expenditure towards service delivery to children. Imran Ghulam Fareed 14, expressed all children in the world have special rights and they need their rights to be protected in all respects without any prejudice in any way.This is necessary to ensure their well-being, successful development and their rights. Not only parents, but all governments and state institutions have duty to create a child friendly environment and to promote children’s rights in order to ensure future.Iram Iqbal 14 told media persons that Pakistan ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child on November 12, 1990 and the successive governments have renewed their commitment to creating friendly environment for all Pakistani children.Unfortunately, huge challenges remain for them in the country. There are laws regarding child Education, Health, Nutrition, Juvenile Justice, Violence, Neglect, Labour and Marriage but unfortunately these laws have not been fully implemented.Tahir Ghani 16, said that social protection is the basic human right of children, enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).He added that based on the convention, children have the right to social security and an adequate standard of living, both of which can be guaranteed for children and families who live in poverty through publicly-funded social protection.Ruaim Abbas, 13, and Zara Siddique, 13, said that each child has a fundamental entitlement to a process of development that recognizes and enables their agency, their own affairs, circumstances and aspirations. It is not enough that we have the best intentions for the child, or that we are committed to find the resources and programmes needed to achieve such intentions.

CJP questions how ‘clarification order’ made it to website

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa has raised nine questions in a letter to the Supreme Court’s registrar, seeking clarification on how a Sept 14 clarification order was uploaded to the top court’s website. The Sept 14 order, issued by eight judges led by senior puisne judge Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, criticised the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for failing to implement the Supreme Court’s July 12 judgement, which declared the PTI eligible for reserved seats in parliament. In his letter dated Sept 21, the CJP wondered who directed the uploading of the Sept 14 clarification order on the Supreme Court’s website. His inquiry followed a note from the Deputy Registrar (Judicial), who flagged the issue of the order’s appearance on the website. Islamabad: Ministry of Communications has taken pragmatic steps to implement the Axle Load Control regime on Motorways & National Highways in the country. Sole objective of this move is to control travelling of overloaded vehicles which lead to fatal accidents besides damaging the national asset of road network of billions of rupees.Prior to implementation of axle load control regime, a technical committee was formed, consisting of officers from Ministry of Communications and National Highway Authority which remained in constant contacts with transport community, Members of the Chambers of Commerce and stakeholders hailing from all the provinces.
