Enthralling poetry evening at NPC

Islamabad :An enchanting poetry evening was organized in honour of celebrated poet Hasan Abbas Raza by the well-known literary organization Sada-e-Sukhan in collaboration with CASHT University at National Press Club (NPC) Library Hall.The evening was presided over by the prominent poet, intellectual and critic Professor Dr. Waheed Ahmad. The guests included Sadia Kamal from National Press Club (NPC) and MD CASHT Tayyab Hussain Malik.The evening started with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by anchor-person Shahid Naseem. It was dexterously moderated by Shahid Nasim and Chairman Sada-e-Sukhan M. A. Doshi respectively.At the outset, Shahid Nasim briefly apprised the gathering about the aims of Sada-e-Sukhan, and the personalities of Sadr-e-Mushaira and Sahib-e-Shaam Hasan Abbas Raza, afterward Chairman Sada-e-Sukhan M. A. Doshi conducted the proceedings.In acknowledgement of Hasan Abbas Raza’s passionate services to Urdu poetry, Chairman ‘Sada-e-Sukhan’ M. A. Doshi gave ‘Sukhan Award 2019’ to ‘Sahib-e-Shaam’.Hasan Abbas Raza before reciting his ‘Qalaam’ offered thanks to organizers for holding such an unforgettable evening. He also appreciated distinguished guests and audience for gracing the occasion with their presence. Terming the evening extraordinary he thanked M. A. Doshi and other coordinators of the evening for honoring him with ‘Sukhan Award 2019’.MD CASHT Tayyab Hussain Malik talked about the lure of technology, which is driving the youth away from the charming world of books. While there is none denying the fact that printed book sales have seen a huge fall with the rise of digital era, however determined efforts can slow down this fall and the excitement over technology will certainly drop.He said that we are opening a public library at CASHT University, which will also be a lending library with a reading room adding that although technology is at war with the books but the era of the printed book is far from over. Doshi and CASHT Management delivered a talk on various beautiful aspects of the personality of Hasan Abbas Raza.

CJP questions how ‘clarification order’ made it to website

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa has raised nine questions in a letter to the Supreme Court’s registrar, seeking clarification on how a Sept 14 clarification order was uploaded to the top court’s website. The Sept 14 order, issued by eight judges led by senior puisne judge Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, criticised the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for failing to implement the Supreme Court’s July 12 judgement, which declared the PTI eligible for reserved seats in parliament. In his letter dated Sept 21, the CJP wondered who directed the uploading of the Sept 14 clarification order on the Supreme Court’s website. His inquiry followed a note from the Deputy Registrar (Judicial), who flagged the issue of the order’s appearance on the website. The note questioned how the order was uploaded when no cause list had been issued, no notices had been sent to the parties, and the order had not been received by the deputy registrar’s office until 8pm on the...

UN awards 2 Pakistani female peacekeepers for gender advocacy

The United Nations has awarded two Pakistani female peacekeepers with the Gender Advocacy Award for their “outstanding performance”, a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. In a statement issued on Thursday, the ISPR said the awards were presented to Major Sania Safdar, part of the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Cyprus, and Major Komal Masood, who served in the Central African Republic, “for their outstanding performance and commitment in promoting the ideals of UN”. The accolades were presented by the under-secretary general in the UN’s Department for Peace Operations at its New York headquarters. “While serving in [an] international environment, both officers demonstrated exceptional professionalism [and] dedication,” the ISPR noted.
