Dialogue on reshaping urban mobility concludes

Islamabad :Director-General of Pakistan Environment Protection Agency (PEPA) Farzana Altaf Shah has said that short, medium and long-term Urbanisation planning goals would go a long way forward to resolve the issues of mobility, health and environment in the capital city. She said that we need to evolve institution for urban planning and go for empirical research to come out the issue of mobility in the city.Dr Altaf was speaking on the concluding day of Dialogue on ‘Reshaping Urban Mobility in Islamabad’ organised by Institute of Urbanism at Sangra village in Haripur district.Dr Altaf She said that probably thousands of the vehicle daily enter in Islamabad on major arteries where official, workers and student came, adding that proper strategy needed to resolve the issue which created the environmental hazards in capital city.Ms Altaf said that the record unhealthy air in the federal capital was mainly due to unplanned transport and abrupt entry of vehicle in early hours. She said that the total number of registered vehicles in the city is less in ratio of the cars reaching from different cities and areas. She said everyone is trying his/her best to destroy the environment.Azam Lodhi, director traffic, Engineering and Transportation Planning, CDA, said that CDA is thinking to evolve new transportation system for providing better transports facilities to the people. He said that individual transport system would be good option to catering the need of commuters in Islamabad.Mome Saleem, Executive Director, Institute of Urbanism, said that pollution of the capital city is on the increase and proper system for people mobility is not evolved properly. She called for necessary steps and comprehensive strategy.Dr Ejaz, director WWF, stressed for adopting the concept of eco-tourism and facilitates. The people of capital city initiated their environment-friendly socio-economic activities for actively participating in the local economy. He said that Islamabad was the city of streams and lush green meadows but now was a city facing serious issue of environmental degradation.

CJP questions how ‘clarification order’ made it to website

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa has raised nine questions in a letter to the Supreme Court’s registrar, seeking clarification on how a Sept 14 clarification order was uploaded to the top court’s website. The Sept 14 order, issued by eight judges led by senior puisne judge Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, criticised the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for failing to implement the Supreme Court’s July 12 judgement, which declared the PTI eligible for reserved seats in parliament. In his letter dated Sept 21, the CJP wondered who directed the uploading of the Sept 14 clarification order on the Supreme Court’s website. His inquiry followed a note from the Deputy Registrar (Judicial), who flagged the issue of the order’s appearance on the website. UN awards 2 Pakistani female peacekeepers for gender advocacy

The United Nations has awarded two Pakistani female peacekeepers with the Gender Advocacy Award for their “outstanding performance”, a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. In a statement issued on Thursday, the ISPR said the awards were presented to Major Sania Safdar, part of the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Cyprus, and Major Komal Masood, who served in the Central African Republic, “for their outstanding performance and commitment in promoting the ideals of UN”. The accolades were presented by the under-secretary general in the UN’s Department for Peace Operations at its New York headquarters. “While serving in [an] international environment, both officers demonstrated exceptional professionalism [and] dedication,” the ISPR noted.
