19 adult literacy centers established

Rawalpindi :Under the Punjab Literacy Programme, 19 adult literacy centers (ALCs) have been established in Rawalpindi, which include 11 ALCs for prisoners in Adiala Jail, two ALCs for transgender, one for Hindu community set up in a temple in Lalkurti area and five ALCs have been set up for Christian community in various parts of Rawalpindi.This was said by District Officer Literacy Rawalpindi Ghulam Ahmed Akash while briefing on the Punjab Literacy Programme. He said minorities, transgender and prisoners have been specially focused in the literacy programme of Punjab formed under the supervision of Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar and Provincial Minister for Informal Education Raja Rashid Hafiz. He said these all 19 ALCs have start functioning from November 15 where illiterate adults are taught special syllabus of Punjab Informal Education department for three months to make them literate citizens. He said in ALCs qualified teachers have been recruited who take classes for two hours daily with the focus on basic English Urdu reading and Arithmetic skills.

Sindh govt, governor announce Rs51m cash prize for Olympics hero Arshad Nadeem

Hours after javelin giant Arshad Nadeem won Pakistan’s first Olympics gold medal in 40 years, the Sindh government and Governor Kamran Tessori on Friday announced cash prizes worth Rs51m for the athlete.
