ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) has detected a massive financial embezzlement in its Park Road Housing Scheme allegedly due to forged payments against the work never carried out. According to sources, the contractor allegedly in connivance with the project director and others withdrew the mobilisation advance of Rs719 million on a fake bank guarantee, while there is also a big question mark on interim payment certificates (IPC), also known as running bills. Besides, huge variations in quantities and the incorporation of extra contractual (non-bill of quantities) have also been also detected. The sources said the issue came under discussion in a meeting of the FGEHA Executive Board on Thursday which was presided over by Federal Secretary Housing Dr Shahzad Khan Bangash. ISLAMABAD: The Adiala Jail administration has opposed moving Bushra Bibi, the wife of PTI founder Imran Khan, back to the prison, claiming that overcrowding posed security threats for the former first lady. Last month, Ms Bibi and her husband were convicted in a case of illegal sale of state gifts and sentenced to 14 years imprisonment. She has since been kept at her husband’s Bani Gala residence — which was declared a sub-jail — instead of Adiala prison, where Mr Khan is imprisoned. On Thursday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) resumed the hearing of Ms Bibi’s petition to transfer her back to the prison. ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Wednesday appointed Arshad Khan Jadoon as the chairman of the Press Council of Pakistan (PCP) with immediate effect and until further orders, as per a notification issued by the Establishment Division. The print media regulator, the PCP, has been lying dormant for over four years as successive governments could not complete the process for appointing a chairman after end of the previous chairman Salahuddin Mengal’s term. The process to appoint another chairman was initiated by the PTI government, but remained inconclusive. The PDM government then finalised names and pay scale for the slot of PCP chairman. The name of Mr Jadoon was finalised, but President Dr Arif Alvi rejected the name and appointed Dr G.M. Chaudhry as PCP chairman.
