PESHAWAR: The flagship project of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Peshawar Sustainable Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Corridor Project, is set to miss the June 30 deadline proposed by National Economic Council (NEC) as only 61 percent of work on the project has been completed thus far.The BRT project, which has become an irritant for the government and source of criticism for the opposition, was started in 2017. Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of the project on October 19 that year, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak pledged to complete the ambitious project in six months.However, the PC-I of the project clearly indicated April 2021 for its completion. The chief minister stuck to their pledge of completing the project in six months even when it looked impossible to do so. BANNU: The district administration arrested a contractor and butcher for being involved in supplying unhygienic meat to various hotels and the Central Prison here on Wednesday, official sources said.The sources said that acting on a tip-off, Additional Assistant Commissioner Hidayatullah Khan along with police party conducted a raid on a house of the contractor wherefrom they seized unhygienic meat.They arrested the contractor Riaz Khan and butcher while two of their accomplices managed to escape from the scene. from The News International - Peshawar https://ift.tt/2J8mUlj

PESHAWAR: In an apparent bid to give extension to the blue-eyed vice-chancellors, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has been delaying advertising the positions of vice-chancellors of three public sector universities even though their term will expire in July.The delay in advertising the positions is considered violation of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities Act, which clearly states that the post should be advertised six months prior to the completion of the tenure of the incumbent so that the process could be completed in time and the office may not remain vacant.The three universities for which the positions have not been advertised include the historic Islamia College Peshawar, Women University Mardan and Bannu University of Science and Technology. MANSEHRA: The Oghi tehsil government has initiated the legal process to arrest contractors who had taken money without executing the development schemes.“We are in a legal process against contractors who withdrew money without executing schemes, and officials who gave them no objection certificates,” Raja Bashir, the tehsil nazim, told the council which met with convener Shaukat Awan in the chair in Oghi on Wednesday. The council passed a resolution and denounced District Nazim Sardar Said Ghulam for transferring Rs7 million funds meant for the Oghi tehsil to Balakot tehsil. “The tendering process for Malkana-Nil Milan road was completed but even then the district nazim transferred funds to Balakot. We condemn and demand the return of this money without any delay,” Munir Tanoli said. NOWSHERA: A man was killed when a dumper hit a tractor-trolley in Azakhel Payan here on Wednesday. It was learnt that one Jangrez and his son Amir Zaib had parked a tractor-trolley on the roadside when the dumper rammed into it. Jangrez was killed in the accident. PESHAWAR: The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) on Wednesday approved 19 projects worth Rs8430.744 million.The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Dr Shahzad Khan Bangash, the additional chief secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Secretary P&D Department Atif Rehman, members of PDWP, representatives of Planning Commission, concerned departments and districts level officers of merged areas, said a handout.The forum considered 20 projects pertaining to different sectors including Water, Sports & Tourism, Agriculture, DWSS, Roads & Bridges, Multi-sectoral Development, Urban Development and Health sectors for the uplift of the province and merged areas. PESHAWAR: The three advisers and two special assistants to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister stood restored on Wednesday after the Peshawar High Court (PHC) dismissed the writ petition that had requested the court to declare the appointments illegal and unconstitutional.A bench comprising Justice Ikramullah Khan and Justice Mussarat Hilali had suspended the appointments on June 13.Those restored included Ziaullah Bangash, adviser on elementary and secondary education, Hamayatullah Khan, adviser on energy and power, and Ajmal Wazir, an adviser with the task of supervising and coordinating merged districts affairs and spokesperson for the provincial government.Two special assistants, Kamran Khan Bangash, on science and technology and information technology, and Abdul Karim Khan, on industries and commerce, were restored as well.The petition was filed by Awami National Party Member Provincial Assembly Khushdil Khan.
