DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The residents have expressed concern over the pre-Eid price-hike and artificial shortage of various kitchen items in the market.They complained that the traders were busy fleecing the customers by selling adulterated andsubstandard food items in the absence of strict action by the quarters concerned.Abdus Sattar, a resident of Kech village, deplored that in the absence of proper monitoring and checking by the district price control committee, prices of fruit and vegetables had shot up.Qazi Iqbal, a resident of Eidgah Colony, was of the opinion that despite clear directives by the authorities, the butchers were not ready to sell the beef and mutton at the rates fixed by the concerned price review committee constituted by the district government. Mansehra Police launch awareness drive to curb sexual harassment

MANSEHRA: The police on Wednesday launched an awareness drive to curb the increasing sexual harassment cases of young boys and girls.“We have been taking interactive sessions with schoolchildren and teachers and equipping them with techniques on how to avoid such a situation where children could fall victims to sexual harassment,” Arif Javed, Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation), told reporters after attending such a sensitising session at a private school.He said that it was a pre-emptive drive launched in the district, which would be expedited further after Eidul Fitr.“We are thinking to widen the scope of this drive from schools to street boys who are more vulnerable and can easily fall into the hands of predators,” said Arif Javed.He said that schoolchildren and teenagers were being equipped with techniques about how to avoid being trapped into the hands of offenders.“The increasing incidents of sexual harassment, which sometimes lead to the death of victims is a major c...

Explosives recovered, one arrested in Mardan

MARDAN: The police claimed to have arrested an accused and seized explosives from the New Barq Goods Transport Adda in the limits of Shergarh Police Station, a senior police officer said on Wednesday.Talking to the media, District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Sajjad Khan said acting on a tip-off, the police raided a New Barq Goods Transport Adda located near the excise checkpost. The DPO added that the police recovered 25kg explosive materials, 12 dynamites, 50 detonators and 100 meters safety fuse. He said the police also arrested an accused Umar Gul, a resident of Babuzai in Swat district and currently living at Shergarh. KP govt asked to cancel contract of plaza construction

MANSEHRA: Tehsil council Mansehra through a unanimous resolution has demanded the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to cancel contract agreement of Jinnah Plaza being constructed at a cost of Rs220 million to enhance the revenue of the tehsil municipal administration.“We have detected some ambiguities in the award of Rs220 million construction contract of Jinnah Plaza and provincial government should immediately cancel it and adopt a fresh procedure to avoid any corruption and mismanagement,” Raja Ayaz, the tehsil councillor, told the council before tabling his resolution in the council on Wednesday. Tehsil Nazim Umar Farooq also addressed the council, which met with acting convener Khalid Qureshi in the chair. 10-day cleanliness campaign launched in Lakki

LAKKI MARWAT: The district administration launched a 10-day cleanliness campaign in Lakki and Naurang towns to provide residents with clean and healthy environment.Lakki Marwat Assistant Commissioner Eid Nawaz Sherani inaugurated the campaign near Children Park in Lakki city. The municipal administration has formulated a comprehensive plan to dispose of garbage dumps and remove filth from sewerage drains in almost all parts of Lakki city. The sanitary workers and sweepers have been assigned special tasks to clean their respective areas and submit a progress report on a daily basis.
