KP CRCs receive 2,869 complaints against police in 2 months

PESHAWAR: Over 2,800 complaints were received to the complaint cells of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police after the appointment of 26 superintendents of police (SPs) as headsof the complaints redressal centres (CRCs) on thedirectives of the apex court.“A total 2,869 complaints were received to the CRCs all over the province during the first two months of the year. Out of the received complaints, 2,143 have been disposed of, with a ratio of 74.69 per cent,” a source told the News.The source said that 154 of the complaints were about the non-registration of the first information report (FIR) while another 138 was about the corruption of the cops.Besides, 79 complaints registered by the public were about the delay in investigation, 60 were about the unfair investigation, 122 were of misbehaviour by policemen, 16 were of illegal confinement, 24 complaints were of torture while 2,276 were miscellaneous complaints.The source said that action was taken against 39 policemen. “Four officials were a...

PHC initiates contempt proceedings against 2 federal secretaries

PESHAWAR: Initiating the contempt of court proceedings, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Friday summoned federal secretaries for framing charge against them.A division bench comprising Justice Ikramullah Khan and Justice Musarrat Hilali also directed the deputy attorney general to ensure that the secretary Finance Division and secretary Education and Professional Training appear on the next hearing or else the court would issue their non-bailable warrant for arrest on the next hearing.The bench summoned the federal secretaries in contempt of court petition filed by the deputy and assistant directors of Basic Education Community Schools, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, for non-compliance with the court order issued in 2016, directing them to issue salaries and other benefits to the officials as regular employees.Deputy Directors Syed Qasim Ali Shah and Muhammad Ismail Jabbar, assistant directors Ghulam Yousaf and others had filed the contempt of court petition through their lawyers Farhatullah and ...

Boy strangled after molestation

HARIPUR: A boy was murdered after being subjected to molestation in Panj Katha area of Khanpur tehsil, police officials said on Friday.They said the police arrested an alleged juvenile offender who happened to be a close relative of the victim.Deputy Inspector General of Hazara police, Muhammad Ali Babakhel, told newsmen at a news conference at the office of Haripur DPO that Umar Nawaz ,7, of Marchabad, Khanpur town was a student of 2nd grade at a local government school.On Thursday evening, he went missing and his body was found near a garbage dump at some distance from his house on the Friday morning.However, according to DIG Hazara, the things would unfold further during investigation by a 9 members JIT.The complainant, according to the DIG, nominated Shoaib, 17, son of Khalid, one of close relatives, for molestation and murder of his son. Human population narrowing leopards’ migration corridors

ABBOTTABAD: The human-leopard conflict is a challenge for the people living near the leopard habitat especially in Galiyat where as many as 80 leopards were killed having corridors connected to Murree, Kashmir, Thandiani and Kaghan valley during last 25 years, said an official on Friday.“The leopards were killed either in self-defence or retaliation. A total of 12 humans, mostly women, were also mauled by leopards during the same period besides 32 others who sustained injuries. Survey of destroyed houses in Tirah demanded

BARA: Pakistan Awami Inqilabi League (PAIL) President Attaullah Afridi on Friday said that the government had yet to complete the survey of the destroyed houses in Tirah valley of the Khyber Agency. Speaking at a press conference in the Bara Press Club on Friday, Attaullah Afridi said that the government had not completed the survey of destroyed houses in Akakhel tribe in Tirah valley. He said the district administration and relevant departments had not taken interest to complete the survey. “Due to wrong policy of the departments concerned, dozens of destroyed houses were not enlisted in the survey plan,” he said.
