FDE forcing schools to pay for enrolment banners

Islamabad : As the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training launches the 'Parho, Aagay Barho' campaign for the enrolment of out-of-school children in Islamabad Capital Territory, all schools have been told to pay for the banners promoting the initiative.Rs1000 is charged for the purpose but no receipt is being issued for it, claimed a school principal.He told ‘The News’ that he and others were unwilling to pay for the banners until they're told to do so in writing and they're paid proper payment receipts.The principal said the relevant ministry officials asked them verbally to pay for the banners to be displayed outside the relevant schools.He however wondered how the principals could pay for goods on the ministry's verbal orders as the act would be considered to be against the laid-down rules and could raise objections by auditors.“We'll make the sought-after payment only if the ministry issued written orders for it,” he said.Under the campaign, ...

HIV infections on the rise

Islamabad : Despite the National AIDS Control Programme’s (NACP’s) efforts for implementation of evidence-based preventive interventions among key population groups, new HIV infections have increased in recent years. Pakistan now faces a concentrated epidemic of HIV/AIDS because infections among Injecting Drug Users (IDUs) and other high-risk groups such as Men Having Sex with Men (MSM), Female Sex Workers (FSWs) and Hijra Sex Workers (HSWs) have reached the threshold level. These communities, upon interaction with the bridging population, can spread HIV/AIDS rapidly to the rest of the population.Apprehensions to this effect were shared with participants of an ‘Interactive Round Table Dialogue with Media Personnel,’ here on Tuesday. NAB seeks record of Park Enclave

‘Patwari’ caught red-handed

Rawalpindi : The Anti-Corruption Establishment, Rawalpindi during a crackdown has arrested a corrupt revenue official, Ali Khan, red handed for taking Rs50,000 bribe. The revenue official (Patwari) had demanded Rs165,000 to do a legal work in which Rs50,000 was paid in advance and remaining amount after completion of the work.The Regional Director Anti-Corruption Muhammad Arif Raheem along with Deputy Director (Investigation) Adnan Babar conducted a raid and arrested revenue official, Ali Khan, for taking Rs50,000 ‘bribe’ even for a legal work.The complainant, Najam Khan, an overseas Pakistani has complained that concerned Patwari demanded Rs165,000 ‘bribe’ to division of my inherited land. ‘Uniform education system, syllabus to be introduced’

Students concerned over closure of hostels

Islamabad : A group of female and male students approached the media outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan to seek help due to facing a trauma in case of closures of their hostels in the capital city.The students have expressed a grave concern over the Capital Development Authority (CDA) sudden drive of closure of male and female hostels established since years and enforced the students to spend their lives under open sky. “Our Prime Minister is providing shelter to the homeless people and on the other hand the departments like CDA pushing us to get out of homes”, says a student.
