Two advisers, special assistants made ministers

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has granted the status of ministers to two advisors and as many special assistants. An official communiqué said those upgraded to ministers include Ziaullah Khan Bangash, the member provincial assembly who was an advisor to the chief minister for Elementary and Secondary Education, and Himayatullah Khan, advisor for Energy and Power. No new tax in budget: minister

SIALKOT: The Punjab government is not going to levy any new tax in the upcoming budget.It was said by Punjab Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Hafiz Mumtaz Ahmed while addressing the local industrialists and exporters at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Friday. The Punjab minister said that the government had already ended taxes on luxury vehicles and the properties owned by the widows in the province. The Excise and Taxation Department was about to launch a mobile phone application to facilitate the people, which would help enable them pay and deposit their taxes and other dues via mobile phones without visiting the offices.The Punjab minister said that the government was going to introduce universal tax policy in the province. Three new judges of PHC sworn in

PESHAWAR: The three recently confirmed judges of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) took oath on Friday.Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth administered oath to the judges at a ceremony in Court Room No 1.The judges included Justice Muhammad Nasir Mehfooz, Justice Shakeel Ahmad and Justice Arshad Ali, appointed as additional judges of the high court. PHC judges, law officers from the office of the deputy attorney general and Advocate General Office, office-bearers of the PHC Bar Association and a number of lawyers attended the oath-taking ceremony. The total number of confirmed judges in the PHC has now reached 16. Currently, all the sitting judges are confirmed judges and the high court is short of four judges against the 20 sanctioned posts. MULTAN: Commissioner Imran Sikandar on Friday directed the Multan Municipal Corporation to launch a crackdown on graffiti. Dacoit killed by his accomplices

FAISALABAD: A dacoit was shot dead by his accomplices after quarrel over division of looted money in the area of Thikriwala police.Police said Friday that four dacoits looted money from Pensara Road near Chak 78-JB Jawaddi. Later, these bandits indulged into scuffle while sitting in the crops near Chak 84-JB over division of looted money. One of the dacoits opened fire and killed his one accomplice and injured two others.However, the assailant dacoit managed to escape from the scene along with booty. Islamabad : The National Institute of Health (NIH) has deployed a team of experts to facilitate the local health authorities in northern Sindh to mount a robust response to the recent on-going HIV outbreak in the province. The team will work closely with the Ministry of Health and other partners.Moreover, the Field Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Division (FEDSD) of NIH has issued an advisory regarding the prevention and control of HIV. Over 13 % Pakistani teenagers use tobacco

Islamabad : As world observed World No Tobacco Day Friday, Pakistan bears a huge burden of tobacco with as many as 19.1 per cent adults using tobacco in any form, men 31.8 per cent and women 5.8 per cent.According to World Health Organisation (WHO), among the youth (13-15 years of age), the prevalence is 13.3 and 6.6 per cent among boys and girls respectively.As per Global Adult Tobacco Survey that was conducted in Pakistan in 2014, the current adult tobacco smokers and smokeless tobacco users were 12.4 per cent and 7.7 per cent respectively and exposure to second hand smoke was 48.3 per cent. On the conservative estimates keeping in view the increase in population, tobacco attributable deaths may amount to 227,000 per year.On this occasion, the Human Development Foundation (HDF) organised a march to commemorate World No Tobacco Day. ‘Punishing children for bedwetting will worsen problem’

Islamabad : As the World Bedwetting Day was marked on Tuesday, noted consultant paediatric urologist Dr Ijaz Hussain warned that punishing children for urinary incontinence would worsen the problem.“Unfortunately, the people subject the children suffering from enuresis (bedwetting) to physical punishment and rebuking without realising that this behaviour will do no good and instead, it will aggravate the medical condition causing more bedwetting and depression among minor patients. Zafar hails Cabinet approval of health tax on tobacco, sugary drinks

BANNU: Four persons were shot dead and two others sustained injuries over an honour- related issue in Hathi Khan village on Thursday, official sources said.The sources said that gunmen forced their entry into the house of one Zohaib in Hathi Khan village and opened fire on a woman identified as Zainab Bibi, killing her on the spot.The sources said that the gunmen came under fire from a rival group and killed three attackers identified as Abdul Haseeb, Mohsin and Hafizur Rehman while two of them Wadeedur Rehman and Latfiur Rehman sustained injuries.The bodies and injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bannu. PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday issued a notice to the federal and provincial government in Constitutional petition challenging the recent legislation meant to protect the laws, which were enforced in the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Provincially Administered Tribal Areas, including one governing internment centres.A division bench comprising Justice Ikramullah and Justice Musarrat Hilali also issued a notice to Attorney General of Pakistan and Advocate General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to appear in the court to assist it on legal issues raised in the petition. Islamabad : Local cigarette companies have been found intensifying their advertisement campaign by displaying posters and banners outside shops in open violation of rules.The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination SRO 1086 (1) 2013 prohibits advertisement campaigns outside shops.According to details, Prohibition of Smoking and Protection of Non Smokers Health Ordinance 2002, Committee on tobacco advertisement guidelines notified under SRO 1005(I)/2013 and the SRO 1086 (1) 2013, no tobacco or tobacco product advertisement shall be allowed in print media, cinema, theatre, TV, radio along with advertisement through poster or banner made out of paper, plastic, cloth or any other material, affixed outside a shop, kiosk or mobile trolley.
